"Socialism"

Why are Christians nowadays so against the redistribution of wealth? Why are they so quick to label it as socialism? Isn't it an inherently Christian concept?

"But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.

Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.

Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep.

Woe to you when all men speak well of you,
for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.

If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full. But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful."

One of the key reasons, in my humble opinion, is that in this society (read Tasmania in 2008) there are opportunities for the vast majority of society to earn their own wealth, or at very least, their own survival.

In some cases, there is laziness - For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." 2 Thess 3:10.

Yet, we feed people through social security.

But there are groups who cannot work, or who are legitimately unemployed. And it is something that we should be proud of that we do "care for our widows" etc.

Yet, sadly there are people who fall through the cracks, they haven't been identified by our "system". That is where I think the travestic tragedy is.

So, I assume it's a mildly political post. Not sure if I agree completely.
